Important information for those who have been racing in the non MSA series.

Following the club committee meeting of the 23rd June 2010 we'd like to make all the Prokart and Prokart modified drivers aware of the following information.

There has been some concern amongst the Prokart and Prokart modified drivers as to if you are able to enter the new MSA series, starting on the weekend of the 10th & 11th July, the primary concerns being licencing and engine eligilbility.

Licencing.

All of you who want to race in the MSA series will require a "Kart Clubman" licence, also known as a Tyro licence, this is probably the simplest and easiest MSA licence to obtain and costs £30. Because your karts are under 15hp you are not required to take an ARKS test, nor a medical, you can simply self declare yourself. I have made available for you the licence application form in the Racing at Lydd section of this site. You don't even need to send it off to the MSA prior to racing, fill it in before the 11th and hand it in when you sign on. For those of you aged 45 or more ignore the tick box towards the end of section 2 where it asks you "aged 45 or more and applying for a race, truck or kart race licence" the MSA will see that you are applying for a Clubman licence and ignore the medical part for you.

There has also been a query about those of you who may already hold an MSA licence (other than Tyro) racing with those on a Tyro licence, there is a proposal from the MSA that "full" licence holder and Tyro licence holder will be allowed to race together from 01/01/2011, we have been in contact with the MSA and they have no objections if you race together as from now.

Photographs.

Please don't forget that you need a passport sized photograph to accompany your licence application to the MSA and you will need that on the morning you sign-on and hand your licence application forms over. If you have the time can you please find a "Photo-me" machine and get your photos done, you'll need an extra one for your upgrade card any way, but don't worry if you run out of time, we have made arrangements for a laptop, printer and digital camera to be available on Sunday 11th so we can arrange to take your photo for you.

Engine eligibility.

There have also been questions about engine eligibility, we understand that the Prokarts drivers are currently using both the "K" series & "T" spec engine, and certainly for F6 racing you can only use the "T" spec type, that is not the case when run as a Tyro class, you can use either type of engine.

Furthermore, because the Prokart modifieds are also under 15hp, then they can also run in the Tyro class as well. You will also require a licence with the requirements as outlined above.

Championships.

There have been many questions about the status of your championships, we're pleased to say that your championship standings will carry over from your non MSA series to the new MSA series, and so you get your usual 6 rounds, the first 3 meetings, July, August and September, will count towards your summer series championship.

Other information.

The only other matters that we should bring to your attention is that you will require a crash helmet to a recognised MSA standard, these cost from as little £99 (+VAT) for a Duchini at Dartford Karting, you will need to have it scrutineered at your first meeting and a sticker applied to it, this costs £1.40, don't worry about your race suits being out of date, the dates are not required for racing in the UK, however if your suit (and/or boots and/or gloves) is in poor condition you may well be picked up on it at scrutineering.

Prokarts and Prokarts modified will run as a single grid, unless/until there are sufficient numbers for you to each have a grid of your own.

Finally, so we know how many are entered, there is no more turning up on the day and racing, you must pre-book your entry and you do that either via the entry form found on this site and posting it in, or you can now use the online booking facility here.
